Dr. A. A. Thasun is an Indonesian herpetologist with a distinguished academic and research career in the study of reptiles and amphibians. From an early age, he developed a strong passion for biology, which led him to specialize in ecology, morphology, and systematic herpetology. He earned his bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Natural Sciences from several universities in Sri Lanka and the United States, followed by a master’s (MRes) and doctorate (PhD) in Biology from Universitas Indonesia.
Dr. Thasun currently serves as a Commissioner at Greksa, a Research Fellow at Indonesia’s National Research & Innovation Agency (BRIN), and a Research Scientist at the Research Center for Climate Change, Universitas Indonesia. His research focuses on the systematics, island biogeography, ecology, evolution, and conservation of South and Southeast Asian herpetofauna. In addition, he plays an active role internationally as the Asian Regional Coordinator for the Skink Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, fostering collaboration to advance reptile conservation across the region.
